[/url]I sat in the lounge near Zazzy's stall. The colt was just as tired as before and has been dozing the whole day. Luckily, he happily ate his breakfast and would still eagerly come to the door when I came to check on him- when he was awake that is.
Jake and I played cards quietly as we waited for Sandra to finish up the last horse. Why wait? Because we had nothing else to do and we still had maybe an hour til the horses' dinner time. All the horses I normally ride got the day off, Jake only had five or so mounts to ride so he was done rather early, Sandra came in late and was just finishing up her last ride, and Ipo was down at the track, listening for lameness.
Turns out that a blind girl can be very helpful on the track. She can catch any misstep or slight limp in horse by just listening. So far, she's saved me five horses from going completely lame. Even heard a shoe coming off before it came off completely.
Just then, I heard the classic clip-clop of horse shoes outside and expected it to be Sandra coming from her ride. That was fast, I noted. Anything wrong?
No reply.
I shrugged it off and continued. Come join our game, I invited. Jake gave me an annoyed look. It was plainly obvious that the two jockeys were not fans of each other, but they'd have to get over that.
Still no reply.
Jake just rolled his eyes and shuffled the cards, glaring at the door and waited. His shoulders hunched up and his jaw set a bit.
But the clip-clop of horse shoes came closer and closer. Soon, I realize that there were no human foot steps accompanying these shoes.
With a sigh, I stood up to see what was the matter, but instead a golden little head popped in, curious and lazy. Zaz! I said, laughing, as I walked over to him, stopping him from entering the lounge before got the chance.
The Thoroughbred gelding just rubbed his head into my hands and looked around with genuine interest, his two ears pricked and careful.
I smiled at Zaz and pushed him back a step. I'll go put him back in his stall, I said as I pushed Zazzy away and nudged him towards his stall. No looking at my cards! I added, giving Jake a playful glare.
Just before I was about to take Zaz to his stall, I rushed in and grabbed a sheet of paper I printed that morning.
I returned to Zazzy, who lipped at some loose straw on the ground. I passed by him and he lifted his head and followed lazily. I came to a stop at the cork board and placed a loose tac onto the sheet of paper before patting Zaz on his golden neck. Come on, you escape artist. Though I was probably the one to just leave the stall door open...Confianza's Schedule
